People of Water and Swamp

These are people that live either on predominantly water worlds or prefer areas of water or swamp.

Tao, Mon Calamari Jedi

Mon Calamari

The Mon Calamari people hail from a water world known either as Mon Calamari or Dac in the outer rim territories. They are masters of starship manufacture, creating ships that almost seem to be grown like seashells. Discovered by the Old Republic not long before it's fall, they already had an advanced culture of arts and science.

Physically, the Mon Calamari's anatomy allows them to be master swimmers, though they can also breath oxygen. They have clawed hands with webbing. Their eyes are set on the sides of their head, allowing a wider view but making compatibility between their visual technology and human's rather a challenge. For this reason, it's wise to have a mon calamari crew fly one of their ships.

An idealistic species, they are a peaceful people, but nonetheless, will fight for the right cause. This led them to join in the Rebellion against the Empire, and a major boon for the Alliance forces as they brought their ships with them.

Quarren

Quarren

The Quarren hail from the same world as the Mon Calamari. But where the Mon Cal are idealistic, the quarren are practical. Where one looked to the stars, the Quarren looked deeper and mined the ocean depths.

The people have tentacled faces and can swim to great depths. As a people, they tended to be more xenophobic and less trustful. On first discovering they shared a world with the Mon Calamari, they attacked them. During the Clone Wars, the senator from Dac was a quarren, and he led his people into the Separatist Camp. This led, in turn to civil war, with the Mon Calamari on the side of the Republic.

Those Quarren who do venture off world tend to excel in business.

Nautolan Rebel

Nautolan

They come from Glee Anselm. They are best known for their music, although few leave their homeworld. Their language is designed for underwater use and their senses are highly tuned in other areas for communication that doesn't work with other species.

Their huge eyes give excellent vision in low light conditions (as one might find underwater) and the tendrils of the head tresses are excellent at scenting out pheremones.

Kaminoan

These creatures are the expert geneticists of the galaxy, coming from the watery planet Kamino outside Republic Space.

They are very tall, mostly white and see in the ultraviolet range. Their evolution can be traced to the results of an ice age and flood which nearly wiped them out. This is when they began experimenting with genetics. They tended to view themselves as superior to other species.

Their most famous role of society was the creation of The Clone Army for the Republic, for which The Clone Wars were named.

Gungans

The Gungans shared the world Naboo with humans. While the humans lived in the cities, the Gungans are a people of the swamps. They have their own militia, worship a pantheon of gods and tended to keep to themselves.

Gungans can seal their nostrils for long, underwater swims and have rubbery skin. They have long ears and eyes on short stalks. Their are two branches, one heavyset, the other wiry.

They are creators of unusual technology including 'bubble cities' and weapons and shields based on Naboo's plasma. Their militia was formed to defend against water predators. However, twenty years before the Clone Wars broke out, the Trade Federation invaded Naboo. Setting aside their differences, human Naboo security officers and the Gungan milita joined forces to repel the invaders.

Zero the Hutt

This species came from a planet they called Varl, but they adopted Nal Hutta as their home.

Large, slug like with short stubby arms and huge mouths, they tended to be slimy and very large. Most were immune to the Force and Jedi Mind tricks. They were also resistant to illness and poisons. They regenerate easily. They are hermaphroditic and had children at will, they also lived very long lives, well into the centuries. They mature very slowly.

The Hutts had their own empire in it's own right and even now certain areas are thought of as 'Hutt space'. Many are often crime lords, being highly greedy, ruthless and ego-centric as a species. Their people suffered great loss during the Yuuzhan Vong war, as they mistakenly thought they could bargain with the invaders.
